California Department of Insurance Consumer Page. Provides resources to assist in making informed decisions regarding insurance related issues and directions for completing "Request for Assistance" and/or general inquiry forms.
California’s Low Cost Automobile Insurance Program. Provides income-eligible, good drivers with liability insurance protection at lower rates.
California Earthquake Authority. Provides catastrophic residential earthquake insurance coverage.
State Compensation Insurance Fund. Provides workers’ compensation insurance coverage.
Regulatory Agencies
California Department of Insurance. Licenses and regulates insurance companies, agents, and brokers in California. Also regulates health insurers but not HMOs and certain types of health plans (see the list of insurers regulated by the department).
Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Workers' Compensation. Monitors the administration of workers' compensation claims, and provides administrative and judicial services to assist in resolving disputes that arise in connection with claims for workers' compensation benefits.
Department of Managed Health Care. Oversees all HMOs in California and some other kinds of health plans (see the list of plans licensed by the department).
Office of Self Insurance Plans. Oversees self-funded workers' compensation programs.
Federal Insurance Office. Monitors all aspects of the insurance sector and serves as an advisory member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council.
Insurance Guarantee Organizations
California Insurance Guarantee Association. Covers claims against insolvent property, casualty, and workers' compensation insurers.
California Life & Health Insurance Guarantee Association. Covers claims against insolvent life and health insurers.
California Self-Insurers’ Security Fund. Covers claims against former self-funded private-sector employers.
Accrediting and Advisory Organizations
National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Establishes national standards for insurance regulation and provides accreditation for states that meet standards deemed critical for the efficient regulation of insurance companies that cross state lines.
National Conference of Insurance Legislators. Develops model laws and standards.
Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission. Establishes uniform standards and provides for the centralized filing and approval of insurance products to be sold in member states that have adopted the Interstate Insurance Compact (California is not a member).
Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California. Develops advisory pure premium rates for workers' compensation insurance and advises policymakers on applicable rules and regulations.
Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation. Joint labor-management body charged with examining the health and safety and workers’ compensation systems in California and recommending administrative or legislative modifications to improve their operation.

California State Bar, Business Law Section, Insurance Committee. Professional organization of California attorneys with an interest in insurance law.
Center for Insurance Law and Regulation. Established at the Santa Clara University School of Law and provides information on recent insurance-related developments and research resources.
California Department of Insurance, Insurance News: Studies, Reports & Publications. Provides links to various publications and data sources related to insurance.
